About
Landfall Ceramics showcases the creative output of Dr Irene Wallis; a geothermal geologist who has explored rocks at home in New Zealand and in far flung places like Antarctica, Chile and Sumatra.

Wallis, like all of us, is not singular.
As a geologist, she understands landscape as interwoven processes that unfold over vast timeframes. As a potter, she appreciates the relationship between natural materials and our built environment. As a woman, she celebrates the mundane and the rhythm of domesticity.
These are layers of knowledge that encapsulate each other. They step inward from vast to intimate, from academic to intuitive.
Through Landfall, Wallis seeks to traverse these layers, celebrate materiality, and unearth the connection between her present sense of self and deep geologic time.
